I wonder what we could sneak into this?
For Arun's Halloween party, I made this dessert called Ghosts in the Graveyard. It is SO yummy, creamy, chocolatey and actually not too heavy. Just perfect for an afternoon kid's party. It is a Cool Whip recipe which is ironic because I use real whipped cream. I loathe Cool Whip and it takes less than 3 minutes to whip real cream anyway. Also, I do not like Oreos, so I use Honey Maid chocolate sticks. Now, the question - which veggie/fruit do you think we could sneak into this? Jessica Seinfeld of Deceptively Delicious sneaks 1 cup of avocado puree into her chocolate pudding. To be sure, sneaking Omega-3 fats into chocolate pudding does not sound half bad.
Ghosts in the Graveyard Halloween Recipe
Ingredients
1 pkg Honeymaid Chocolate sticks
2 pkg (4 serving sized) Chocolate INSTANT pudding
3.5 cups of cold milk
3 cups whipped cream
Preparation
CRUSH cookies in zipper-style plastic bag with rolling pin or in food processor.
POUR cold milk into large bowl. Add pudding mixes. Beat 2 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes. Stir in 3 cups of the whipped cream and 1/2 of the crushed cookies. Spoon into 13x9-inch baking dish. Sprinkle with remaining crushed cookie for the "dirt".
REFRIGERATE 1 hour or until ready to serve. Store leftover dessert in refrigerator.
GRAVEYARD DECORATION: Decorate assorted cookies with decorator icings to make "tombstones." Stand "tombstones" on top of dessert with candy corn and pumpkins. Drop dollops of whipped cream to make ghosts.

You could totally sneak in some Omega-3-filled nuts, or some fiber-licious oat bran or wheat germ. And no one would know.
You could also puree some super-duper-antioxidant bluberries - that would taste good AND make it more healthy.

Bananas because they are awesome with chocolate. You might even be able to replace the cream with full fat greek yoghurt, as it's so thick. Not because of the fat (durr, little kids need fats for their brains, did you tell me that, actually?) but because you'd get just about the same dairy fat + the acidophilus bacteria. I guess it would make the dessert like a heavy pudding instead of fluffy, though.
Flax seeds would be easy. THis looks fun and yummy.

Along the same train of thought with the avocado puree, I read that prune puree makes a wonderful addition to baked goods and desserts.
Nice work! I've also wondered why most don't make whipped cream, it's so much more delicious. I've made it with my KA Mixer and just a regular hand-held mixer with great results.
I have a couple hundred cookbooks, it's just ridiculous. Richard loves them as much as I do, thankfully.

That is a great-looking cake. I would have been thrilled to bits to have a cake like that as a kid.
BTW: My mom was HUGE on sneaking healthiness into desserts. Her faves were extra egg yolks, powdered milk, wheat germ, and bran. (She really bought into Adele Davis's protein mania.)

I'm with Rozanne (like that's a surprise, I usually agree with her). Let the dessert just be dessert! Shun broccoli amidst the chocolate, althought if you wanted pink whipped cream, I'd imagine a bit of beet juice would do the job.
Whoops. Strike that. Red dye #5 in place of the beet juice. Much more in keeping with the spirit of dessert.

But, seriously, avocado in pudding? Because there wasn't enough fat in there in the first place? I get the omega-3s, but.. it's not like avocados are loaded with fiber.

I always make homemade whipped cream too..with one teaspoon organic sugar it's a much less sweet and yummier. Depending on the kids...you could use baby carrots for your deocrations...
Candy Corn isn't a vegetable?!? *gasp*
Maybe applesauce? Or raspberries? Really really ripe ones, so when you dig in with the serving spoon it looks like it's bleeding.
Now I have an intense desire to buy barbie dolls. Will miracles never cease?
