For Shame

So, it seems my sweet, honey of a husband has had a light bulb moment of a brainstorm and is realizing the value of a blog.  Value! In a blog!  Can you imagine the lunacy?

In short, he would like me to talk about his new business. Obviously, I am hesitant to talk gift cards on Snapgifts.com all the damned time.  While I am really, really excited about this business, I want to be careful of watering down my stern, serious, very authoritative voice here.  The masses look up to me, right?

Ah hell, who am I kidding?

Okay...okay.  On a serious note, I suspect all of us can think of at least one blogger in our feed reader who spends the majority of their posts plugging their paying gigs.  And I do not want to be That Blogger.  *shudder*

So, this is the deal.  When I talk Husband's Business, I will just put a title of "For Shame" on these particular posts.  Those of you who loathe unabashed peddling can merely move along, right? Seriously, click your ass on out.  I will not be offended. Promise!  Is that simple enough?  To be fair, I should note that I will be hosting a series of giveaways within those posts.  Cruel, am I not?

So, you are asking "What the hell is Snapgifts.com??"  Quite simply, it is a site that provides a central portal for purchasing gift cards - both varieties of cards are offered!  Yes, your grandma's landfill-stuffing, plastic cards of yore and additionally, we offer e-cards that would make little Al Gore fill his pants. Our e-cards can be personalized, then emailed to the recipient.  From there, they can either be printed or simply shown via a smartphone. Our particular focus is on local businesses and to that end, we are in the process of networking with local businesses.  And of course, all of this makes long-distance gift-giving a piece of cake.

So, Giveaway #1 shall commence:

We are giving away a $50 Snapgifts.com gift card that can be used for any of the merchants listed on our site!

Leave a comment here and tell me what you are most looking forward to this holiday season!  If you would like an extra chance to win, please post this on your own blog (if you could use the verbiage "gift cards at Snapgifts.com" in your link that helps us get the word out with Google.  Ahem.) Please let me know if you have posted on your site or not so I can keep track.

This giveaway closes Sunday, November 15th at Midnight, CST.  I am really sorry, but this can only be open to US Residents.

So, what am I looking forward most to this holiday season?  Christmas lights!!!  The kids and I had so much  fun playing I Spy Pumpkins all throughout October.  Damn, their heads are going to explode with all of the lights around here.

I'm not sure if this what I am most looking forward, but I always host a huge crose for thanksgiving, and at least in the new house, I'll have room.

I am looking forward to the ambiance of the season. I hate the stress and just thinking about the gifts and decorating and the xmas cards is tiring me out. But the part where you sit in a lovely room with a glass of heavily rummed up egg nog with Christmas carols in the background? yes please!

Every year we pack up the kids and visit my family in Phoenix. While it's blustery and cold here in KC we are walking around quiet neighborhoods picking fresh fruit from trees and enjoying the warm weather. I look forward to this every year and this year too!

I'm not sure what I'm looking forward to the most. the lights, the eggnog (already started thanks) the tree? The late night sewing? :)

I know what my five year old is looking forward to 'building a snowman on christmas' last year's snowstorm may have ruined him!

I host Christmas for our family and I love having my immediate family around for 2-3 days playing with my kids and enjoying each other. I used to do a big Christmas dinner (roast, cheesecake, the works, but $$$) but last year I switched to homemade biscuits and gravy for simplicity and $ saving and it went over really well.

I'm looking forward to the excuse to bake. Of course I bake off and on the rest of the year but I get down seriously for Christmas because you're Supposed To Eat Crap this time of year. I love baking so very much and this time of year is an excuse to eat it all, especially as I try to lose some post-partum weight.
So yes, baking. I can't wait to get out my cookie cutters and go to town.

I'm looking forward to the advent wreath....We're not a religious family, and we don't even go to church. But, it was so nice to light a candle once a week and spend a few moments with the family. I planned ahead this year, and bought special candles for it.

I am looking forward to digging in to my stash of Xanax so I can tolerate the right wing wanna-be Christians that will be descending from the country known as 'Texas'. Have a merry solstice.. I know I will!

I am so excited for this Christmas because my husband's family (parents, brother, SIL, & nieces!)are all coming to stay with us! Most people would balk at the idea of having their in-laws at their house on Christmas but I think it's going to be a very special holiday for all of us and I can't wait! (Plus I get to smooch on my adorable nieces for a whole 10 days!)

Most looking forward to seeing Kenzie's face and reaction to everything sparkly, shiny, and lit up! She's talking and wow what a "holiday" Halloween was! :-) Oh, and did I mention the food! Holidays are always about food... oh and with a dash of family minus the drama (please!)

It may be cheesy but I'm really looking forward to Christmas morning. Ebaby is 6 and still believes. Scoop will be 22 months and will sort of get it this year. I want to see the joy and innocence of Christmas after a really difficult year.

Glad M came around! Hope the business booms!

I'm organizing a cookie exchange party with a group of girlfriends... I love any excuse to bake!

(P.S. I also mentioned this contest on my website. Good luck to X on his new venture... I think it's a fabulous idea!)

Looking forward to seeing my parents, just like we do every year. I absolutely love watching them with their grandson. Priceless.

I am most looking forward to taking my kids to the train display at Union Station and eating at Fritz's. A will have a blast, but my little choo choo freak, B, will absolutely be over the moon!

I think the best part is the food! And the booze. And of course the loved ones. (Some of which you may need booze to love. heeheee.)

I'm looking forward to spending Christmas in Florida with my in-laws. Yes - it will be different, but it is time for a change, and I'm ready for some warm weather.

I can't wait for Christmas breakfast. We always have a serious brunch with formal place settings but everyone eats in their pajamas.

I am looking forward to time with my 3 year old son. As a high school teacher, I don't seem to spend as much time with him as I do with other people's kids. He is really excited to put up the tree this year!

I am most looking forward to the little niceties that pop up between acquaintances at the holiday time--as it seems we all need a nudging reminder to take a few extra seconds or minutes to do/say something thoughtful for people we don't know that well, if for not other reason that they are here in our presence, we CAN do for them, and . . . we're all connected anyway. The holiday time of year lends itself to that more than any other time--and it's actually a great byproduct (one of the few) of any lengthening of the holiday season.

We're not traveling to see family this holiday season, so it's going to a celebratory time with all of our young, currently-childless yuppie friends. So I'm most looking forward to, um, "Sloshfest '09" on the evening of Black Friday, where we pretend to be back in college & crazy partiers.

well I never enter because I never ever win... but I will tell you I am most looking forward to Kya and Kena waking up to a house of love, sticky buns and of course the ownder of presents under the tree... then sitting around with christmas music on while the kids trample through their presents and Karl and I cuddle on the couch! Now the reality will be presents will be discarded within 5 monutes of them being opened... I will burn the sticky buns, and Karl will be running around the house looking for that one battery we forgot to purchase to put in the ONE toy Kya actually wants to play with, all in all, I am sure it will be a nice un-relaxing day :)

I'm not looking forward to the 13 hour drive, but I am so excited to take my baby girl home to meet the rest of my family. We're taking a whole week to visit with everyone up north.
