Seriously now. Would Debra Winger lead us wrong??

One word: Croup.

Last night, I insisted to X that we needed to sit in a steamy bathroom with Arun to clear his croupy throat. X protested saying this did not make sense and that Arun would just freak out. He proclaimed that the cool mist humidifier in the bedroom was enough. He then questioned my expertise in the realm of Things Croupy. How could I explain that I had seen Debra Winger do it with her daughter during the countless times I have watched Terms of Endearment, one of my all-time favorite movies? I cannot blame him for not wanting put the fate of our son's health in Debra Wingers hands. But still. Innernets, was I wrong??

My poor baby. There is something about a feverish kid that freaks my shit out. I do not handle it well. But now, I have Perspective again. Something I had lost earlier this week when I was struggling with a big of a Funk. Holy CRAP. Nothing else matters much when your baby is sick. Nothing.

Anyway - while doing nightwatch over Arun last night, ironically, I had time to fiddle with photos on the Mac that resides in the spare bedroom. Enjoy.

Just what I always wanted. My own little sister!
I will name her George, and I will hug her, and pet her, and squeeze her.

Look at my baby girl totally rockin' those cowboy pajamas! I hope she appreciates those moose pajamas that are comin' down her Fashion Pike.

Happier times.

Yes, blue eyes. We are not sure whether they will eventually turn brown, but damn. We are loving them in the meantime.

Your babies are looking awfully cute. I love how Arun is always kissing and loving on his little sister.

You have to haul these out when they're teenagers and fighting like crazy. Beautiful, as usual.

Sorry to hear about the funk. It's just no fun and it seems that kids keep getting that funk no matter what.

Great pics!

Fevers freak my shit out.

The kids are so damn adorable! Such wonderful imagery of the two together!

Croupy child = shower steam. Tell X this does not come from Debra Winger, but from a pediatrics nurse who has spent entirely too much time drowning in the hospital croup tent.

Also? Loving Anjali's blue blue eyes with the love I reserve for black forest cake.

Ahh, croup. We had that here a couple weeks ago. Much fun, isn't it? I told Kile to take Liam into the steamy bathroom for EXACTLY the same reason. Terms of Endearment. And it worked, sorta. Another thing: taking them out in the cold night air helps too. Go figure. I wasn't as sure because Debra Winger didn't do that, but I've been assured it works.

Also Anna cured Diana's croupy younger child with ipecac in Anne of Green Gables, softening Diana's mom's anger towards her for getting Diana drunk that one time on the mistaken cordial, right? How does X feel about taking parenting tips from turn-of-the-century children's lit?

Anne, and Diana's younger sister MINNIE. Sorry, preview is my friend.

Um it's Minnie Mae. And she did cure it with ipecac. And then got invited to stay in the Spare Room. (Ok so that just happens to be my favorite book. Ever.)
But a steamy bathroom is just fine. Works just as well. Croup is no fun. I had a really bad bout as a child. THe pics are so great.

Sorry to hear about the croupy cough.

Love, LOVE, the pics! My boys kept their steely blues until about 10-11 months of age. They were great while they lasted, but I love their soft browns now, too;>

Our oldest got croup several times. You were right--though my MIL (who had several kids who got it regulary as well) said if it's cold out take them out first, that's actually better. Steam works really well too though.

Our oldest just got it again this fall, and it was weird that it wasn't cold enough to help. He's now 4 years old and was freaked out more then when he was a baby, but once he was better it was fun to laugh with him about his silly cough. (Um, we're a "whatever works" family. But we don't laugh at real pain and suffereing, really!)

You are so right. Nothing, but nothing trumps a sick kid. I hope he feels better (and you can get some sleep) soon.

I have no real expertise in kiddo croup. So far mine only had it mildly and adults don't tend to get it the way little kids do.

I've never had to deal with croup but a friend's pediatrician recommended exposure to cold and then steamy heat. She even suggested sticking the kid's head in the freezer if it isn't cold outside. Sounds crazy but Dana said it helped.

The sibling love photos are too cute!

Sorry that Arun has croup. That stuff stinks.

And I LOVE Anju's blue eyes. They are gorgeous!

Our pediatric nurse said that opening the door to the freezer, or breathing in cold air outside was more effective than the shower steam.

But I'm with you, I trust Debra Winger over anybody! (And I get tears every time I even think of her in T of E.)
