Where did the other Eleven Days of Christmas go?

I want them back.

  • I've noticed that insomnia at 6:00 am is infinitely more convenient than insomnia at 2:00 am.

  • Monkey keeps telling me to take it easy this holiday season and really, that hasn't been a problem this year. We couldn't do our Christmas party because of scheduling, Average Jane nixed her cookie exchange this year , I went easy on the holiday decorating this year and, AND I managed to cull 4 people from my Christmas list (aunt, uncle, cousin's two kids). In fact, I am done Christmas shopping since I kept it simple this year by buying one nice gift instead of a myriad of smaller gifts for each person. There isn't much left for me to do but lie around on the couch and feel sorry for myself.

  • From habit of spending my days with a toddler, I just tried to play Peek-a-Boo with the cat. He wasn't amused.

  • Yesterday, I got an email from Blogger saying that my blog had been detected as a spam blog. Huh? Obviously, they fixed it, but I wonder what prompted that in the first place.

  • I am very sad that Karen at the Naked Ovary is shutting down her blog - I've been reading her for so long that when I began, she was just going through her last IVF (she has since adopted her daughter from China). However, I completely understand why she is doing so. If what happened to her, happened to me, I would close shop in a heartbeart, too. Why is the blog world getting so mean? Are we really just an extended version of high school around here?

  • In my own little experience with negativity, I had a commenter get mean with me on a blog. In short, it was an advice blog and the topic was breastfeeding. The blogger made a statement that ran directly counter to what I have heard lactation consultants state consistently over the past year. So, I commented very politely what I had heard the lactation consultants say and even started my comment with a "Hey, not to be disagreeable". However, another commenter (not the blogger) took it upon herself to inform me that people were just "sharing their experiences" and frankly, she didn't do it a nice way, either. I guess I didn't "experience" much by sitting in a breastfeeding support group for over a year so who the fuck did I think I was?. I read blogs all the time where I vehemently disagree with what is said, but I rarely comment. It seems most bloggers only want Kissy Face Comments and I respect that, so I keep my mouth shut. For sure, a Troll is a Troll is a Troll. But to make a comment that disagrees with what could be bad advice or flat-out misinformation is NOT Trollish behaviour. Particularly, on an advice blog that dispenses advice and is written by a blogger who regularly encourages her readers to comment with their opinions. Anyway, that whole exchange disheartened me to the extent that I haven't felt like commenting much on people's blogs lately.

It sucks that some people can't take a healthy discussion. Usually the people arguing with you aren't even the blog's author. Also, you can't quit commenting completely. First you have to go see my post today.

That is too bad about The Naked Ovary. Her's was brilliant. Feel free to wantonly disagree with everything I say, I'll still love you.

People are stupid. What was the bad advice? Countering bad breastfeeding advice is becoming something of a hobby of mine lately. :)

Cheryl,
WOW. Very cool.

Diana,
Yes, I always have an itchy finger on your blog because you just piss me off. ha! :-)

Leah,
I wouldn't say the breastfeeding advice was bad, but it could have been interpreted as misleading. Which is why I felt compelled to comment. The specifics aren't relevant, what was distressful was how the other commenter reacted to MY comment because I dared to disagree.

Now I feel like I missed out on something. What happened to TNO? I hadn't read in a couple of weeks and all of a sudden it's being shut down.

I've noticed that, about blog comments - that some people only want positive comments or bum kissing. Not that my blog is particularly controversial, but I'd take a well-thought-out disagreement over obvious brown nosing any day. Luckily, my blog readership is so tiny that pretty much the only people who comment actually know me IRL, and I know Monkey and EEK and QIR tell it like it is.

I'm sorry I finked out on the cookie exchange this year, but I feel as though Christmas is racing toward me faster than I can handle this year. We'll have to have a game night in January and all bring cookies then!

I do leave positive comments on a lot of blogs because I read my friend's blogs and well, I like my friends. With blogs I staunchly disagree on, I generally won't leave a comment and eventually I stop reading unless they're really good writers.

However, I have disagreed with mle, QIR and eek at times, on politics or whatever, as they have with me and I have not held it against them (I hope they haven't held it against me).

I also don't understand the concept of "assvice"-maybe it's worse when so many people read your blog but unless you're like, calling me mean names, I will take your opposing viewpoint into consideration and my friends have given me a lot of good advice over the years.

I hope I've made you feel like I bitched you out or anything because as I told you recently, something you told me really helped me out and I appreciate your sharing your view on it given the similarity of our work, workplaces and temperament.

I'm sending Ginger Ale Waves of comfort your way that the wee babe settles in and you start feeling better again.

I've been up since 5.30am this morning for God knows what reason.. I just.. couldn't get back to sleep, so here I am.

Hee. The kitty will grow to love the hide and seek. Keep on swimming with that one.

I'm finding it sad that a fair few bloggers are disappearing. I don't know what happened, whether people just got plain old nasty, but I think it stinks.

I think we all need a good verse of Kumbayah. Or something.

The thing to try and remember when someone gets just plain nasty, is that it really has nothing to do with you. Having said that, i have had people disagree with me on my blog, and i sometimes have to apply the go away for a while until i can be civil rule.

It's a hard time of year too.

Yes, what happened at TNO? I've been reading for a year now but haven't checked in a few days, and now her site is down! I hope it was nothing to do with MP!

P.S. Delurking to say I've been reading for awhile, love your site, and I hope I'm just like you when I'm a mom.

Eek!

You're not a Naked Ovary fan?? How DARE you disagree with me! ;-)

Hello! Hope all is well in your world. I too am amazed at how mean some bloggers can be to other bloggers. But then again, the workplace can be equally as scarring. :)

I can't even get into Karen's site. SHe has a password protection system on it. Sounds like she must have had one horrible, horrible experience to close up shop like that. SO sad.

Hope you are feeling good with this pregnancy. And sorry to hear someone got all nasty with you. SOmetime I have to wonder what the HELL is going on in some peoples' lives where they feel vindicated in being so bitchy and mean.

Also, I used to have a business many years ago. My clients were all women. What sucked was that some of them felt like, "hey, I pay you money for a service and since I've had a bad day at work, I'm going to take my bad mood out on YOU." GOd, I HATED that job.

Blogger is being an asshole and won't let me comment on beta blogs. So i'm not anon. It's me, Lisa... From Midwestern Mommy.
